RACING

Pauline on way to another record...The Trans Pennine Club's 'have a go' philosophy has led them down many roads over the years. Being affiliated to the BCF, the RTTC, SPOCO and others, the competitive members have the opprtunity to participate in road racing, time trialling and mountainbike racing. The club also organises both open, club only and invitation events for all abilities.

Being an open minded bunch, the TPCC are not ones to restrict themselves to cycle racing either. The membership will often be seen in local runnng, rowing, duathlon and in the near future - triathlon events.

The Great 2008 Trans Pennine CC One Mile Handicap Dash and Half Mile Hill Climb

The sprint target times are based on age, general fitness, type of bike and a couple of twists thought up by Captain Contours.

Congratulations to Graham Hahn on winning the sprint and best vet on the hill climb. Congratulations to Ronnie Cooper for his win on the hill climb. Although it was a cold day, there was a good turn out, rewarded with a lunch in a local pub after the event. Thanks to Colin Fielding, Steve Taylor and Nichole Chadderton for the marvelous time keeping.

Yet again it was a warm and balmy evening which caused problems of it's own with many competitors coughing and wheezing with the polution inhaled on the one mile course. A rather small field of seven turned out to compete with Phil the friendly chairman doing the honours with the stop watch at one end, whilst Nicole juggled between timing and competing at the other.

The Great 2005 Trans Pennine CC One Mile Dash

From left to right are: Richard, Austin, Pauline, Ken, Graham, Nicole and, basking in the glow of his victory, Chris.

An exiting evening was spent on Victoria Avenue as a small, but dedicated group gathered to take part in Graham's first organised event. After a rainy day the eveing was balmy and sunny with just a little tailwind to assist us. Two runs each were timed, with the best time counting, and the winner was Chris with a blistering time of 2min 32secs.

After the racing, we gathered for a drink at the Toybox Inn (where the finish line was handily placed) to hear the results (pictured above).

Below is a photo taken of the competitors and marshals of the same event we ran in 1999.

Pauline embarks on a TPCC hill climb event, manfully assisted by Steve, her personal pusher offer.

Trans Pennine CC organise a club only hill climb every year. In 2004 we took on the Cragg Vale course - the longest uninterupted climb in Britain!

The racing calender isn't restricted to just cycling either. Here is Chris during the 2005 Great North Run...
