CHARITY
200 miles in 24 hours publicity shot for the Oldham Chronicle

Since the early days of the club, we have been actively involved in all sorts of fundraising activities. Within the first couple of years of the clubs formation the members embarked on a 200 mile 24 hour ride to Wales and back raising money for the Oldham Youth Project. The members could and can always be counted on to support other organised events such as the British Heart Foundation's Sheffield based 'Pedal for a Medal', as well as 'Bike Events' Manchester to Blackpool and Manchester 100 rides. More recently we have been participating in Phil Ligget's 'Phil and friends' ride around the Peak District.

In the mid nineties the club ran an invitation only charity ride around the spectacular hills and valleys of Calderdale. The initial idea grew into what has become the annual 'Over the Edge' ride which is organised jointly by the T.P.C.C and the B.H.F. It is now the British Heart Foundation's largest cycling event with over 500 entries and reputedly one of the most spectacular and well marshalled charity rides in the country.

Pauline emerges from the Mersey tunnel during the Liverpool-Chetser-Liverpool ride.

This annual ride is organised by Healthstart and the TPCC alway try to participate in numbers.

Here we have some members and friends taking part in the Steve Rothwell memorial ride.

Along with a 5k run, this has now become an annual fixture.

Manchester to Liverpool Ride 2005

Phil and Steve hit the Trans Pennine Trail on this, the first ever Bike events Manchester to Liverpool ride. Although initially a little aprehensive about taking skinny tyres onto rough track, it wasn't long before the group was moving at a fair canter akin to something from the Paris-Roubaix...

Pauline and Nicole follow suit as they thunder along the trail...

A little rest and refreshment is taken at the famous Ferry Tavern on the banks of the River Mersey. Note the character in the background...

The fine weather comes to an end as our heros get caught in a tropical thunder storm in the way back. Sharing an ice-cream, they nurse a drink of tea for a couple of hours whilst they take shelter in a KFC as the good colonel himself smiles down...
